At Friendswood, doctrine isn't an archaic or dirty word, it's a first priority. It is sound doctrine that not only leads one INTO salvation (2TI 3:14,15), but guides one THROUGH salvation (2TI 3:16,17).
This area of the site contains small treatises dealing with a number of doctrines taught at Friendswood. The teaching of sound doctrine cannot be done in a few syllables or visuals, it takes time - time to hear, time to consider, time to clarify, time to implement - hence, while small, they are not items that can be merely 'skimmed over' or taken in at a glance. They are offered to give you insight into how we view and apply the Bible. We will add to these over time. At times you may see a title that isn't linked to a page - you may consider that a 'heads-up'. Any unlinked titles are works in progress and should shortly be made available online.
As you read through these offerings, you may pass your mouse cursor over highlighted texts and references (as exemplified in the first paragraph of this page) for helps. These call-out boxes will nearly always be the Biblical text alluded to or specifically referenced in the reading. Using the call-outs assists in keeping the visual page a bit shorter, while still providing the corresponding text for those who would use it. The Biblical text will always be the New American Standard Bible text provided by the Lockman Foundation. Any changes in the text will be so noted (as in translating the Greek term baptizo and its derivatives into the English term "immerse" and its derivatives). The preacher appreciates the literalness of the NASB, and so uses it generally in teaching, though the venerable King James Version is always part of his arsenal of reference material and not infrequently quoted or alluded to.
